Biological and Biomedical Sciences

About this Department

Many solutions to the world’s problems are rooted in the sciences. Whether you are studying microorganisms or researching treatments and cures for diseases, understanding the foundations of the biological sciences—and how they apply to medicine—is crucial for students who want to become problem solvers and leaders in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

BryantBiological and Biomedical Sciences students will receive a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and immersive education. They will develop the knowledge and analytical skills needed to excel in the many exciting careers in the biological and biomedical fields. Experiential education is a hallmark of the Bryanteducation, and there are many opportunities—both inside and outside the classroom and labs—for students to gain hands-on experience in research, internships, practicums, and travel.

Undergraduates often collaborate with faculty on research that is published and presented at conferences. Opportunities for this kind of collaboration, often only available to graduate students at other institutions, are widely available to science students at 91AV.

With guidance from faculty who mentor students through their time at 91AV, graduates successfully pursue careers in clinical medicine, academia, industry, and business. Many students build strong mentoring relationships with faculty that often last well beyond their time at Bryantas they grow through the phases of their successful careers.

Hannah Couture Class of 2020

Department Highlight

We wish to congratulate biology major Hannah Couture '20 as she was accepted to every Doctor of Physical Therapy program she applied to and is off to Belmont University in the fall. She credits much of her success to her coursework, leadership opportunities, her research on biomechanical modeling of ligaments, and the meaningful faculty relationships she forged as a science student at 91AV.

Real-World Outcomes

Our graduates are finding success after graduation, whether they gain employment in industry or attend graduate school. A majority of our graduates get accepted to graduate school, including medical school, dental school, physician assistant programs, physical therapy programs, pharmacy school, and more.

Meaningful Learning Opportunities

Students have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty mentors on research, participate in 10-week, paid summer fellowships funded by NASA, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health, and engage with scientists at area research hospitals on real-world research.

“Bryanthas helped me succeed a lot academically. I’ve also built close relationships with my professors, who gave me research opportunities and furthered my understanding about biology. I don’t think I would have had as many of those opportunities in another school. I’ve been very grateful for that support.”
