Vandit Gupta ’21, ’23 MBA
Unsure what he wanted to do after high school, Vandit Gupta ’21, ’23 MBA, attended an orientation about BryantUniversity in his hometown of New Delhi, India. After learning about the close-knit environment and focus on international business, he knew Bryantwas the best choice for him to continue his education, first as an undergrad, and later through the One-Year MBA program.
Why did you continue your education at BryantUniversity?
After my undergrad years, I worked at ACS Industries as a marketing analyst, and I realized that I needed more analytical skills. I knew Bryantoffered a business analytics specialization, so I decided to do the MBA. I did my undergrad in marketing, and I decided that business analytics could be a good extension of my marketing background.
I’m also from a business family. We have a manufacturing business, so I thought this might help me in my future endeavors. One day I want to go back to India and help with my family’s business.
What are a few highlights of your MBA experience?
I really liked the course on corporate decision-making by Professor Dirk Primus. He talks a lot about tools that are very useful as a business analyst and how to make strategic decisions based on those tools, and I’ve already used these tools in the work that I’m doing at ACS Industries. I enjoyed it because I’ve been able to connect the dots. I know what’s useful for me in the real world.
What skills are you looking to add through the program?
Mainly business analytics, but we also go over so many other areas of business. I’m taking a supply chain management class with Professor John Visich; we’re talking about lean operations and how to improve manufacturing, which connects back to my family’s background. Learning all of this is helpful. I like the fact that the MBA touches on all areas of business.
What are your career goals once your program is complete?
I intend to work at ACS Industries for a couple of years and then go back to India and work with my dad. Our company is currently India-based, and we don’t have a lot of global operations. Because Bryanthas a very international focus as well, I plan to take my family’s business abroad to help it grow.
Why would you recommend Bryantto other international students?
You should come to Bryantif you want to build a good network and if you want to gain skills that are useful in all areas of business. Plus, there is a wide variety of specializations; it’s a very diversified MBA program.
My specialization is a STEM program, which allows me to extend my work after graduating [through Optional Practical Training (OPT)]. This is nice for international students looking to gain work experience in the U.S. 91AV’s focus on STEM programs is really beneficial for international students.
